5. Continuous Professional Improvement. The effective educator consistently:
a. Designs purposeful professional goals to strengthen the effectiveness of instruction based on students’ needs;
I set a professional goal to better understand differentiation and how differentiated instruction can be designed for the classroom. In order to help me meet this goal, I interviewed my Collaborating Teacher to see how she differentiates her classroom and how I can do it as well.

b. Examines and uses data-informed research to improve instruction and student achievement;
I gave my students a pretest to determine what they knew and what they didn't know about length and height. I used that data to help guide my lessons by focusing on what they didn't know from the pretest. I also continued to collect data and used that data to help guide my lesson the following day.

During my supervisor lesson on morning, noon and night, I decided to collect the students work at the end. I did this so I could decide whether or not my students understood the concept of morning, noon and night. If they didn’t understand it, then I was going to reteach it the next day but based off of their work, every student understood the material.

c. Uses a variety of data, independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, to evaluate learning outcomes, adjust planning and continuously improve the effectiveness of the lessons;
When making the assessment for my Connected lessons, I was able to collaborate with the other kindergarten interns and the CTs to go over what the students needed to be able to do after I taught both lessons. Based on the data from my assessment, I was able to adjust my lesson on day one to fit the studnets learning needs. I was also able to do this after my lesson on day one to be prepared for my lesson on day two.

d. Collaborates with the home, school and larger communities to foster communication and to support student learning and continuous improvement
During my final internship, each day either my CT or myself write in the agendas if a student is either on yellow, orange or red on our behavior clip chart. Recently, since this is my last semester or interning, my CT has asked me to write in the agendas more to take on my responsibility. This is how I am able to collaborate and communicate with my students parents.

During my final internship, I also attended the kindergarten PLC meetings every other week. During these meetings, I was able to communicate with other kindergarten team members and I was able to communicate how we as educators can support students and continue to improve as a teacher.

e. Engages in targeted professional growth opportunities and reflective practices;
After each observation, I am asked to write up a reflection to talk about what I thought went well, what I think I could improve on, and what I need to do differently next time. Through these reflections, I am able to see professional growth opportunities and I am able to reflect on my teaching practices.

f. Implements knowledge and skills learned in professional development in the teaching and learning process.
At the elementary school I am interning at, they try to do professional development at least once a month. On the days they do do professional development, they usually have mini sessions of teachers teaching or informing other teachers about a strategy or something they are doing in the classroom that helps their students in some type of way. Recently, I attended one of these sessions on whole brain teaching. Just from this one 45 minute session, I was able to learn some types and tricks that I have been trying while I am teaching. I have found that several of these strategies really help to keep the students engaged in what I am teaching and to help them learn the material. My favorite whole brain strategy is called Mirror.
