WHAT: For this assignment, I had to fill out a seating chart for the Kindergarten classroom that I will be interning in this semester. The way my CT has her classroom set up is little different than my last CT’s classroom which was a fourth grade class. In my current classroom, my CT has her students sitting at tables in groups of two or three. However, in the fourth grade classroom, the students were sitting at desks in groups of four or five. My Current CT also has a seating arrangement for when the students are sitting on the carpet. I think this is very appropriate since every lesson is done on the carpet. In our text Principles of Classroom Management by Levin and Nolan, it states that "An effective seating arrangement allows the teacher to be in close proximity to all students." By giving the students a seating arrangement for the carpet, she has all of her students in front of her making it easier to watch them and keep them focused. Another thing my CT has in her classroom is she has storage bins next to each table so the students can keep their materials neat and together in one place. Although most of the students are not able to read, she has labeled each draw so the students are able to find their materials easier. She also has a large 4 draw storage bin for glue, color pencils, crayons, and markers. If a student needs any of these supplies, then they are able to get up and get it without asking.
